Jack Banister is a journalist with The Citizen and the recipient of the 2019 Schiavon Cadetship.
In 2018, he was a part of The Guardian Australia team that won the Walkley and Quill awards for Innovation, for his work on their Deaths Inside investigation. He was also one of the Melbourne Press Club’s inaugural Michael Gordon Fellows.
After three years studying English and Politics at the University of Exeter in England, he came back to Melbourne to be closer to the Richmond Football Club. He talks about the sport on his podcast, The People’s Game, and cries about it frequently.
THE CITIZEN is a publication of the Centre for Advancing Journalism. It has several aims. Foremost, it is a teaching tool that showcases the work of the students in the University of Melbourne’s Master of Journalism and Master of International Journalism programs, giving them real-world experience in working for publication and to deadline.
