Xi Gong was born in China, and her parents are both mechanical engineers.  Under her parents' influence, she chose mechanical engineering at university.  In 2018-2022, she studied Marine Engineering at Dalian Maritime University. However, the monotony of mechanical subjects made her realize that she should do something she really loves.  After graduating from university, she chose to study literature, which she had never done before.  In 2023-2024, Xi studied International Journalism at the University of Melbourne.  Having been interested in literature and arts from a young age, she quickly adapted to the challenges from journalism and looked forward to writing some meaningful stories.  In 2024, Xi chose to study a traditional Chinese marriage: the “zhuixu” (matrilocal) marriage.  She spent one year traveling from Beijing to Hangzhou to Shanghai, interviewing matrilocal couples, the heads of matrilocal marriage agency, some young Chinese people and relevant experts, providing valuable insights into the evolution and meaning of  China's modern matrilocal marriages.
