Going into bat for Australia’s women cricketers

Women’s cricket in Australia has been growing in popularity, with the nation’s international team topping world rankings. But while the game has been played by women in Australia since the 1890s, they have never had the profile or backing enjoyed by men.

Now, as some of Australia’s top cricketers prepare for the English Women’s Super League, the Australian Cricketer’s Association and Cricket Australia are debating whether to give female players their own collective bargaining agreement or possible memorandum of understanding.

In this audio report, Jess Bassano speaks with the ACA and Cricket Australia about how negotiations are progressing, and with international star Emma Inglis about balancing her cricket commitments with a full-time job.
