Peaking late: after Everest, Australian grandma set to join exclusive mountaineering club

At 68, Melbourne grandmother and psychologist Jan Smith became the second oldest woman to climb Mt Everest. Now 71, she is on her way to becoming the oldest woman in the “Seven Summits” club, joining an exclusive group of mountaineers who have climbed the highest peaks on each of the seven continents. Emily Porrello spoke to the self-confessed “woman with altitude” about the highs and lows of climbing.
