Look, no hands! All aboard Victoria’s first driverless bus, and the future

Would you trust a robot to drive you to work? Victoria’s first autonomous shuttle is now taking passengers. We’re adapting our laws and roads for driverless vehicles, but can we shift our human default settings, and our fears? Alexandra Alvaro takes a spin.

In the not so distant future, driverless shuttles may be your ride to and from the train station or the bus. A trial model took its first passengers across La Trobe University last month, and our intrepid reporter was among them.
