CAJ senior lecturer Jo Chandler has received a 2025 Varuna Climate Fellowship, a prestigious opportunity extended to writers whose work explores climate change and the environment.

The fellowship offers a week-long residency at Varuna, Australia’s National Writers’ House. Located in the Blue Mountains, the Varuna Residential Program supports intensive work, conversation and connection across the realms of literature, academia, journalism, grassroots organising and activism.

As one of six recipients, Chandler will write and reside alongside science writers Cynthia Banham and Lauren Fuge, geographer Lesley Head, journalist Patrick Lau, and poet and essayist Dani Netherclift.

This year’s program will also feature an online roundtable with Science Write Now co-founders and editors Dr. Jessica White and Dr. Amanda Niehaus, with select works by the 2025 fellows to be considered for publication in Science Write Now in 2026.
