Ariff’s story, Down and out in Deakin: The word on the street on the homelessness crisis, was published by The Citizen in the lead-up to the 2019 Federal Election. It explored homelessness in the comfortable middle Melbourne suburbs in the battleground electorate of Deakin, where the issue is often ignored.

The story raised a number of issues, including the availability of public housing in Victoria, the scope of Newstart, and the prevalence of mental health concerns amongst Victoria’s homeless population.
