The Citizen reporter awarded inaugural science journalism grant

The Citizen reporter awarded inaugural science journalism grant
Grant awarded to: Jordyn Beazley

The Citizen has secured the first early-career journalist grant in an inaugural grants program launched to foster science journalism.

Graduate cadet reporter Jordyn Beazley will use the grant, awarded by the Science Journalism Association of Australia, to report on a relatively new and emerging scientific field called soundscape ecology.

Under the mentorship of the ABC’s Natasha Mitchell, host of the ABC RN’s Science Friction, Beazley’s audio story will examine how soundscape ecology can help us to understand the impacts of human activity on the environment.

Beazley was one of three journalists in Australia to receive a grant from the association, with the other grants going to freelance journalist Clare Watson and Lydian Hales of the Medical Republic.
