Sanctuary traditionally means a place of shelter or protection, yet people can seek sanctuary in a shared pastime, a beloved companion or even in simple human contact.  In this video series, Seeking Sanctuary, The Citizen examines what sanctuary means in modern-day Australia.  

Mikhail Ruzhanskiy is a young gay man from Russia, a country whose parliament voted in 2013 to make “gay propoganda” illegal.

He spoke to Liam Clark about moving to Melbourne and finding refuge in its gay community.
