The Eurovision Song Contest has pitted the nations of Europe against each other in song since 1956 to become one of the most-watched television shows on the planet.
This year, singers from 42 countries ventured to Stockholm, Sweden to contend for the 61st Eurovision title.
Despite being nowhere near Europe, Australia was again invited to compete, with Korean-Australian singer Dami Im belting her way to second place with her power ballad Sound of Silence.
Not content with merely finding their way into the program lovingly referred to as “Europe’s Favourite TV Show”, SBS has now acquired the rights to make a local version of the show for the Asia-Pacific region.
